Our upcoming Sentinel Plant Network training for the Southwest Region is scheduled for January 29th and 30th at San Diego Botanic Garden in San Diego, California. As a member garden of the Sentinel Plant Network, your organization will be eligible to send two staff members to participate in this workshop. There is no registration fee and we will reimburse your organization for their transportation expenses + one night of lodging! Joining the Sentinel Plant Network is free for members of the American Public Gardens Association.

During the workshop:

  • Attendees will learn how to interpret signs and symptoms of different kinds of plant pests and diseases and work more efficiently with diagnosticians and regulatory officials to stop serious threats.
  • We will debut new Sentinel Plant Network resources for front line horticulturists and plant health care professionals including scouting alerts, monitoring checklists, identification aids and train-the-trainer materials.
  • The workshop will include an overview of the program's educational outreach materials and guidance on how to integrate them into your garden.

The application process is easy and the application deadline is December 27th. You can apply by clicking the "Register" tab on this page. For more information, or to join the Sentinel Plant Network, please contact Alexis Bacon, Program Assistant, at abacon@publicgardens.org.
