Job Qualifications

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Works with the Horticulture staff to assure coordinated, quality hands-on training through practical work experiences.
Works with Adult Education staff to assure coordinated, quality education through academic training.
In collaboration with Horticulture and Adult Education staff, organizes, and facilitates the work of approximately 30 instructors and Horticulture work rotation supervisors.
Supervises the School’s Manager who assists the Director in all aspects of School operations.
Conducts curriculum reviews as outlined in SOPH Curriculum Review and Revision Policy.
Organizes, coordinates, and is actively involved in specialized horticulture training, i.e., plant walks, field trips, student plots and lecture programs for students.
Develops and manages student orientation, graduation and alumni events.
Responsible for SoPH student recruitment, including marketing, alumni outreach, catalog and brochure production, and admission process.
Oversees and maintains the School website.
Leads the School’s Advisory Committee, Advisory Board of instructors, supervisory staff, and horticulture professionals in periodic reviews of the SOPH program.
Maintains complete and accurate student statistics and records for licensing and accreditation and prepares appropriate reports.
Provides academic and career advisement to students. Helps facilitate internships.
Responsible for developing annual business plan. Prepares and monitors annual budget.
Serves as NYBG’s principal liaison with the New York State Education Department’s Bureau of Proprietary Schools
Supervision, and with the School’s accrediting agency, ACCET (Accrediting Council for Continuing Education & Training).
Ensures state rules and regulations are adhered to, deadlines are met, and records are kept up-to-date. Serves as School’s principal liaison with the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the N.Y. Department of Veterans Affairs. Ensures rules and regulations are adhered to and deadlines are met.
Interacts with education professionals and represents the Garden at professional functions. Stays abreast of new academic/professional developments in horticulture and related fields.
Works with BCC Horticulture Program Coordinator, NYBG staff and instructors on curriculum, scheduling of classes and rotations, ensuring a smooth operation of the program.

Education and Experience


Administrative experience in running an educational program a plus.
Excellent communication and writing skills.
Demonstrated supervisory experience.
Masters or Bachelor degree in Horticulture plus field experience.
Strong computer skills (MS Office, U.S. Department of Education software and websites)
